Sunshine Coast Lightning have done themselves (and Sunny Coasters) proud this week, securing a spot in this year’s Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final.  As the Sunshine Coast’s only national sporting team (and now defending Champions!), these incredible women are constantly inspiring us here at Mask Events.

This season, we’ve been lucky enough to have premium seats to all of Lightning’s home games (as well as VIP Laneway access).  The Mask team have coordinated and styled the VIP Laneway at each home game, where family, friends and fans supported and celebrated together over tasty treats and vino.  Of course, our daughters were only too happy to “help” us work these events, since it meant getting up-close with their sporting heroes.

The VIP Laneway offered not just a chance to enjoy Lightning’s games in style, but awesome networking opportunities for corporate guests and sponsors.

But how did we turn the concrete foyer at USC Stadium into a chill cocktail space for Lightning’s VIP guests to relax and mingle?

Event styling of this sort can pose a challenge, as we need to ensure the space remains functional for the University (with access to lifts and fire exits open to everyone), at the same time as giving it an exclusive feel for the VIP guests.

Styling Concrete – The Secret Weapon
It’s all about the greenery, people!  Mask Events created greenery backdrops to soften the space for a more intimate vibe.  We love dual function styling elements, so these backdrops also served to separate the VIP Laneway space from the facilities of the University.  A dedicated entrance for the VIP guests enhanced the feel of an exclusive, cocktail venue.

Lounge break-out areas were set up inside and outside so that guests could enjoy the sun on some of the beautiful winter days the Sunshine Coast experienced during the season.

The stage we created for the MC, players and coaches to engage with the guests was a huge hit (Daughters of Mask – front and centre with questions and adoration)

The Laneway space was also used for player signings after the games, so the post-halftime hustle was real!  Once guests had enjoyed their half-time drinks and mingles and were back at courtside cheering wildly, we got busy packing down.  By the end of the games the space was ready for players to meet, greet and sign with their fans.

It’s been such an amazing season for the Sunshine Coast Lightning, and we’re so happy to have been a part of it.  Beyond excited to see our girls do their thing in another Grand Final – Lightning really does strike twice and we are cheering like mad in support!
