An Extravagant Thank You

Stellar BPO are a call centre outsourcing business based in Maroochydore, Queensland, who have trusted Mask Events to look after the styling of their annual staff Gala Dinner for many years.  A thank you to all their hard-working team, our brief was that the timing of this year’s event had changed to February and now aligned with Chinese New Year celebrations.  Traditionally a decadent and over the top celebration of prosperity, abundance and generosity we went to work creating a mood board of ideas to present our concept.

Dragons, fireworks and cherry blossoms

From our mood board our concept began to take shape, transforming the Marooch RSL and the experience that the team at Stellar BPO were in for at their Gala Dinner.

Over 250 guests were greeted with a Singapore Sling cocktail on arrival as they were drawn towards the ancient gates to a temple covered in cherry blossoms, Chinese lanterns and prosperity ornaments.  Through the entrance and into a Chinese wonderland, Maroochy RSL was almost unrecognisable, with every table and chair dressed in red and gold and each table embellished with a cherry blossom tree LED  centrepiece.

A themed photo opportunity

A photo wall dressed in traditional Chinese style fabric was waiting for our guests to capture their memories of the evening, with oriental flags adorning the room. A Chinese dragon hung above centre stage as a backdrop to the entertainment, accompanied by large Chinese fans, lanterns and red lighting to set the mood.

The traditional lion dance

The 3-course gala dinner was not without its entertainment, guests were treated to a dragon lion dance, where they enjoyed a Chinese tradition of feeding the dragon money from a red envelope containing coins provided at their table.  To light up the performance even more, digital sparklers bordered the stage front and room edges. The sparklers were set off at the beginning and end of the lion dance, encompassing the room in fire and light to help cheer and guide the dragon on its journey. It was a truly magical environment.

A parting gift

No guest left the night empty handed, parting their Chinese New Year celebrations with a smiling face and a noodle box containing fortune cookies, chopsticks and an ornamental fan or Chinese drum.  Just a little something to remember the evening in great company at the Stellar BPO annual Gala Dinner.
