Baby Let’s Cruise

Auto and General, a Brisbane and Sunshine Coast based insurance company, partnered with Mask Events to deliver a night to remember for their team.  Care and passion for their people is imperative to Auto and General, so they wanted to say a big THANK YOU to their sales team with a celebratory cocktail function.  They selected The Sebel Pelican Waters, for the event. This Caloundra venue boasts breathtaking views of the Glasshouse Mountains as well as a Greg Norman championship golf course.  Though all the action on the evening was focused in the Main Ballroom, not on the golf course ☺

A Very Classy Cruiseship

Auto and General went with our styling only option, as catering and entertainment had already been arranged.  They decided on a “Cruise Ship” theme, allowing for the high volume of guests with stand up bars and a few seating areas available.  The ballroom of The Sebel was convincingly transformed into a vintage Cruise Ship for this special celebration.

We conducted research and developed mood boards depicting a range of ideas within the Cruise Ship theme.  The shortlisted themes were:

1. Tropical 80’s Cruising – Loud, vibrant colours and styling.  Think Pina Coladas and pineapples.
2. Vintage Classy Cruise – Traditional nautical styling with red, white and blue colourings.  Think boat shoes, shuffleboard and dinner at the Captain’s Table.

And the winner was….

Vintage Classy Cruise!

We worked primarily with Pinterest to explore the Vintage Cruising theme.  It was a wealth of cruising eye-candy, assisting us in selecting colour palettes, lighting options and traditional props for an authentic cruise ship effect.

All Aboard!

250 Auto and General leaders and team members arrived via a gangway entrance we built into the ballroom, eliciting the feeling of walking onto a ship.

We replicated the bulwark of a ship to use as the photo backdrop, so guests appeared to be on a ship in their pictures from the evening.  We’re pretty sure that when they look back on the pics years from now, they’ll remember actually celebrating on a ship that night 😉

Captain Takes the Helm

Uplighting was used throughout the ballroom to showcase the theming.  It highlighted the flag poles, nautical flags, suitcases and lifebuoys that all added to the essence of the cruising theme.  Tealight candles wrapped in nautical rope supplied soft lowlighting at tables, adding to the sophisticated, vintage ambience.

Guests could stand at the ship’s wheel for their photo ops, playing Captain for the night.
